Henry Shelonzek

Chairman, Delegate to the Faculty Socrates Erasmus Commission

Hi! My name is Henry Shelonzek. I am currently on my 3rd year of my BSc studying biotechnology at the University of Silesia. My supervisor is Dr. Sławomir Sułowicz from the department of microbiology. My research thesis is titled “Isolation and Characterization of Wild Yeast to Determine their Potential in Commercial Use” I spend most of my time working on developing the student project, „Project BioWar” for that past year and a half. My interests include working on projects which involve solving real life problems using solutions

Łukasz Grabolus

Vice-President, Coordinator of external interests, Delegate WRSS the Faculty Development Committee

Hi! My names is Łukasz Grabolus. I am currently on my 2nd year of my BSc studying biotechnology at the University of Silesia. My interest is in microbiology and genetics. During my free time, I enjoy reading history books and playing basketball.

Natalia Kaszyca

Coordinator for Student Organizations, Delegate to the Faculty Committee for Biology and Environmental Protection

Hi! My name is Natalia Kaszyca. I am currently on my 2nd year of my MSc studying biology at the University of Silesia

Arkadiusz Imiela

Delegate for WRSS Faculty Committee for quality of Education

Hi! My name is Arkadiusz Imiela. I am currently on my 2nd year of my MSc studying c biology at the University of Silesia. My promoter is Dr. Łukasz Depa. I received my BSc in 2015, bachelor thesis title: ‘Orthopterofauna of the Eastern Beskidy Mountains as an example of habitat specificity of the orthopterans.’ Currently I’m working on my master thesis which covers the orthopterans fauna in mountain pastures of Beskid Żywiecki Mountains (promoter: prof. dr hab. Jacek Gorczyca). My science interests are about the orthopterans (Insceta: Orthoptera); their taxonomy, ecology and zoogeography, especially in mountains. Also, I participate in two ‘Faunatics’ projects: Using molecular markers in taxonomy problem solving in selected insects groups and By yourself. Otherwise I’m a traveler, pretty nice cook and future mountain guide.

Szymon Mazur

Delegate for WRSS Faculty Committee for Biotechnology

Hi! My name is Szymon Mazur. I am currently on my 3rd year of my BSc studying biotechnology at the University of Silesia. My promoter is Dr. hab. Jolanta Kwaśniewska and my thesis topic is „Chromatin Structure and Damaged DNA. My main interests are microbiology, yeast biotechnology, micropropagation, and response systems for damaged DNA.

Paulina Kościelniak

Coordinator of Foreign Students

Hi! My name is Paulina Kościelniak. I’m currently a 1st year MSc student studying biotechnology at the University of Silesia. My promoter is prof. zw. dr hab. Iwona Szarejko and my supervisor of my thesis is dr Marzena Kurowska. The subject of my thesis is „Optimization of Tests that Determine the Sensitivity of Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) Jasmonides and Analysis of Expression Profiles of Genes Encoding Aquaporins in Selected Mutants Containing Changes in the HvSNAC1 Gene (stress responsive NAC1)” I’m interested in molecular genetics m.in gene expression, mutations and genetic transformation of plants. My main interest focuses on micropropagation which I spend most my time developing while working on the project “Jungle fever” at the Interdisciplinary student science club called “Planeta”.

Patryk Rurka

Coordinator of Social and scholarship funding

Hi! My name is Patryk Rurka. I’m currently a 1st year MSc student studying biotechnology at the University of Silesia. Biotechnology BSc – “Genome shuffling as a tool of metabolic engineering of yeast”. My main interests are metabolic engineering, bioinformatic, yeasts, industry biotechnology. I’m also a part of the EARSMUS program doing an apprenticeship overseen by Mikael Skurnik, Professor of Bacteriology in the Department of Bacteriology and Immunology at The Haartman Institute University of Helsinki

Sebastian Dirks

Coordinator of IT

Hi! My name is Sebastian Dirks. I’m currently a 2nd year BSc student studying biotechnology at the University of Silesia. As a second-year BSc student its hard for me to say what I intend to do in the future but I can say that my interests lie in genetics and or microbiology. I really enjoy the laboratory work atmosphere and find research to be very interesting.

Martyna Czerkawska

Coordinator of culture

Hi! My name is Martyna Czerkawska. I am currently on my 2nd year of my BSc studying biotechnology at the University of Silesia. My main interest is microbiology. I find it fascinating that organisms we can’t see can have such an impact in our lives. Since I’m only on my 2nd year, I can say the most important thing for me is to gain experience and knowledge while being in the company of great people.

Michał Grajdek

Coordinator of governors and student information, Coordinator of Promotion

Hi! My name is  Michał Grajdek. I am currently on my 2nd year of my BSc studying biotechnology at the University of Silesia. When I was a kid I had my favorite show on TV about Wild Animals. It was very interesting for me, how they live, what they eat, how they behave. I could watch it for hours. Also, I loved mixing things together and watch what happened next. Now I can do it at our University studying Biotechnology since it’s a combination of chemistry and biology. Currently my favorite subject is microbiology with an interest that involves facilitating bacteria to clean up the environment. I also see myself in the production of supplements and in brewing.
